Piedmont Atlanta Hospital

As a designer, I had the privilege of creating The Healing Canopy, a mural for the lobby space, and designing a donor wall to honor and celebrate the generosity of those who contributed to the project.

The Healing Canopy draws inspiration from Atlanta’s identity as a “city in a forest,” celebrated for its expansive tree canopy that enhances the city’s beauty, purifies the air, cools urban spaces, and fosters a sense of comfort and healing. Reflecting the layered structure of evergreen forests, the artwork symbolizes the harmony and resilience found in nature. From the vibrant energy of the forest floor to the serene light of the canopy, the design mirrors the patient’s journey to wellness while celebrating Atlanta’s lush urban landscape. The donor wall complements this narrative, integrating gratitude and community into the healing environment.

The Process.

To bring The Healing Canopy mural to life, I employed a combination of photography, 3D rendering, and vector art. The white silhouette of a delicate leaf pattern suggests the leaves have gently drifted away, carried by the wind. This subtle motion connects the mural to the adjacent metal leaf wall sculpture, creating a harmonious relationship between the two artworks. The layering of techniques allowed me to capture both the essence of Atlanta’s natural beauty and the dynamic energy of the space, resulting in a design that feels both grounded and ethereal.

The Process

Creating 3D virtual sets was the best way to concept the layered elements within the installation. Being able to explore the concept at different angles helped with design decisions for visual asthetics as well as saftey of people walking by the installation.
